MUSIC OF PALESTINE
THE SPIRIT OF RESISTANCE LIVES IN OUR MUSIC.
Palestine is a beautiful ancient land of faith with a uniquely scarred history which often overshadows its creative voices. This concert explores some of the diverse and wonderful array of music that springs out of adversity and expresses the deep roots of Palestinian identity.

ZAID HILAL x BEJE/BRITISH EUROPEAN JAZZ ENSEMBLE
Zaid Hilal is an eloquent and compelling Palestinian singer and master of the ear-catching bağlama, a traditional seven-stringed, long-necked lute, as heard in his intricate, emotional and remarkably varied compositions and magnificent and stirring improvisations.

Here, Zaid and BEJE show off their fine playing and rich ensemble work on a beguiling selection of folk, jazz-rock, and beyond, shot through with flavours from the Middle East. Their evocative set spans classy, cinematic chamber pieces, quietly epic sound worlds that build to widescreen exuberance, elegant, mesmerising songs resonating with meaning, and rapturous, punchy dance tunes popping and fizzing with energy. Just superb.
