AZHAAR SAFFAR ENSEMBLE

Superb 'tropical sunshine' world-jazz.

-

A VIBRANT, IRREVERENT HYBRID OF JAZZ ENERGY, TROPICAL WARMTH, GLOBAL RHYTHMS, AND INFECTIOUS FUNK GROOVES.

Iraqi/Welsh virtuoso violinist Azhaar Saffar showcases her poetic original compositions, a melting pot of influences from her nomadic wanderings that embraces Latin, Brazilian, African and Arabic music. Azhaar's glorious, soaring modern jazz violin and beautiful vocals lead a stunning international jazz band to an electric live performance.

A burst of tropical sunshine, an exhilarating beat feast; dance away in true carnival spirit.

Azhaar Saffar made her reputation fronting internationally acclaimed Brazilian jazz group, Sirius B, which released six albums and was a popular live attraction. She has travelled widely, visiting and performing in the Middle East, West Africa, South America and Central America, absorbing the music of these regions and incorporating them in her own sound.

She has performed all over Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica and the USA, including international festivals such as Montreux Jazz, Mai Jazz, EFG London Jazz, Brecon Jazz, Birmingham Jazz, Glastonbury and Larmer Tree, made regular appearances at Camden's Jazz Cafe, opened at the Barbican Centre for Caetano Veloso and Aierto Moreira, and jammed with Carlinhos Brown and Jair Rodrigues.

'The perfect jazz dance band.'
Mark 'Snowboy' Cotgrove (DJ and music historian)
