About Future Lives:

Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer; Ross Smithwick is best known as the guitarist of UK alternative group, Lonely The Brave, as well as founder and frontman of seminal post-hardcore band, Secondsmile (2000 – 2009).

After a break in LTB’s intense schedule, Ross began writing and recording in his Bristol home under the moniker Future Lives. He then hit the studio in early 2017 to record a debut EP, This is Living, with producer and long-term friend Dan Lucas. One moment direct, the next beautifully atmospheric, the four-track takes influence from Ross’s time in both Secondsmile and Lonely The Brave. It blends his signature style with a restraint learnt over the last few years, as well as a whole new energy and love of synths and feedback. All of it is raw, emotional and every bit him.

Instantly, This is Living – released in September 2017 - gained support from the UK media, including Kerrang!, Upset Magazine, Daniel P Carter’s Radio 1 Rock Show, and Alex Baker’s ‘Fresh Blood’ on Kerrang! Radio. Shortly after, the solo project evolved into a full band, with friends and musicians Joe Poole (bass), Lewis Convoy (drums) and Tom Stevens (guitar/synth) becoming permanent members. (Tom also his own project, New Palace Talkies, which Ross joins him live.) The group have played gigs throughout the country, including a sold out debut show, support to UK rockers Turbowolf, and an appearance at Bristol’s Dot to Dot festival.

2018 sees the release of Future Lives’ first full-length record, Now and Never. Following on from the EP, the album continues to provide rich, atmospheric sounds, in-your-face riffs and incredibly catchy vocal hooks. However, while the EP focused more on personal relationships - and figuring out what they mean - the album takes an even deeper look into your own struggles and flaws, as well as our role in the world.

“Now and Never is a concept that I struggle with a lot. Everything you do, and the amount of work and love you put into things both big and small – it matters so much. But, at the same time, does it really? When you’re done and gone, does it all boil down to nothing? I like to think that it doesn’t. But it can be a struggle to stay positive, and it’s at these times when you’re truly tested. So Now and Never is about dealing with your own desperations, depression and beliefs. And working to be a better person.”

Armed with this new album, Future Lives look set to unleash this new energy and eagerness onto the world, and push forward to reach as many people as possible.
