Spinny Nights bring newest signings Nukuluk to The Crofter's Rights for their Bristol debut, alongside Biped and Quade.

‘DISASTER POP’ is the debut EP from London-based experimental hip hop collective Nukuluk. Drawing on a series of eureka moments during studio play, they owe their chaotic sound to a symbiotic relationship between each of the group’s five members and the broad pool of music that inspires them. Their world-building approach sees them design otherworldly production landscapes, stages where vocalists Syd and Monika can battle.

Formed in service of ‘DISASTER POP’ itself, Nukuluk came together from the fringes of south London’s band scene, sharing an appetite for experimental electronic music and hip hop. Starting out as production sketches by Syd, each of the EP’s five songs was reimagined by the full band, with members Monika, Louis, Olivia and Mateo bringing a new and unique energy to the process.

Taking inspiration from British trip-hop outfits like Massive Attack, Gorillaz and Tricky, contemporary pop producers like SOPHIE and alt rappers like Danny Brown and JPEGmafia, the project is a confluence of heavy electronic production, real instrumentation and rap storytelling. Nukuluk’s Syd and Monika push-and-pull on tracks like ‘Feel So’, where both focus their contrasting energies on frustrations with social negligence, the immigration system and racism in modern Britain.
