Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang + Blood Sport + guests at Crofters Rights
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"After a string of memorable/sweaty shows in Bristol, this is literally your last chance to dance with Sheffield’s aggro-beat pioneers, as they sign off with a final jaunt around the UK. Qu Junktions have pitted them against Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang, from Sierra Leone via Brooklyn, catch them on their debut European tour. With releases on David Byrne’s Luaka Bop, this one’s crucial for fans of KING AYISOBA and Shangaan Electro. Tickets: £8 + 50p."

Qu Junktions and Howling Owl present a live-action Saturday night dancefloor doozy, with a double bill of highest-octane live acts forming a potent panacea against the deep winter clench.

From West Africa via New York comes Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang, an unstoppable Afro-synth express train signed to David Byrne's Luaka Bop label: the folk rhythms of Janka's native Freetown transposed to a streamlined electronic template of drum machine kicks, twitching synths and propulsive bass, all conducted through Janka's talismanic vocalist-animateur presence.

From Sheffield, and for the very last time in these parts, come Blood Sport: the pulverising post-techno guitar/drum/electronics trio are sadly calling time on their adventures in rhythm and sound, and having declared Bristol their 'second home' following a string of memorably sweaty sessions in recent years, don't miss them firing up the engine for this glorious final circuit.

Plus Bristol's Worm Disco DJs threading worldly, wobbly rhythmic selections through proceedings until late.
