hackedepicciotto + Dead Space Chamber Music at Crypt of The Mount Without, St Michaels Hill
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Cerebral chamber industrial meets ethereal church space with mind-altering results. Bristol’s answer to Dead Can Dance (aka Dead Space Chamber Music) support hackedpicciotto - a disarming duo combining dark ritual intensity with hurdy gurdy, autoharp and crushing bass stabs. Not for the faint hearted, but essential for fans of Einstürzende Neubauten, Coil, Lingua Ignota, Pan Daijing."

Dark Alchemy proudly presents: Experimental two-piece hackedepicciotto (featuring Alexander Hacke of pioneering German band Einstürzende Neubauten) with special guests - Bristol's own dark neoclassical group Dead Space Chamber Music. This is the first of 3 UK tour dates, and will take place in the stunning setting of the crypt of The Mount Without. Not to be missed!

hackedepicciotto are Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto. Danielle moved from New York to Berlin in 1987, to become the co-initiator of the Berlin Love Parade festival; a collaborator of the Ocean Club & Monica Werkstatt with Gudrun Gut; member of cult band Crime & The City Solution and founded hackedepicciotto together with Alexander Hacke in 2010. Alexander Hacke is an original member and bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten. The artist couple has collaborated on international projects for two decades besides regularly releasing their own compositions.

The duo is touring Europe throughout 2022 presenting their first album for cult independent label Mute Records, The Silver Threshold.

hackedepicciotto are known for their expansive and exploratory, music reflecting the endless movement across places, landscapes and environments the pair have experienced. They glide across genres that take in cinematic drone, industrial, experimental, spoken word and soundscapes that shift between immersive ambient into noisy eruptions.

“The Silver Threshold is a setting, a world in which frayed classical instruments meet metal, iron filling fizzles, pulsations, deep thuds and stirring gravitas.” - Monolith Cocktail

Dead Space Chamber Music are a dark neoclassical group from Bristol, UK. They reinterpret historical material, taking forms and melodies from the medieval and Renaissance periods in particular, and shape-shifting them into new contemporary works. Drawing on many musical approaches, including found-sound and improvisation, they incorporate elements and atmospheres of of medieval, neo folk, ritual ambient and early industrial in their avant-garde music.

In December 2021 they released The Black Hours, their 2nd studio album in collaboration with eclectic Bristol label, Avon Terror Corps. Inspired by a medieval devotional ‘book of hours’, the album digs deep into the unsettling and disorienting experiences of the pandemic, confronting and embodying many emotions — from the boldly visceral to the melancholic with an edge of eerie. The songs show the breadth of the group’s scope in terms of influences and approaches — material that is hundreds of years old being given new life, with soul-stirring melodies rising to dramatic doom-laden highs via experimental techniques.

Dead Space Chamber Music co-curate the Dark Alchemy event series, which will host the Bristol show in the stunning crypt of The Mount Without.

“The Black Hours is deeply storied and gloriously doomy…a mix of beauty and heaviness, ancient and new.” - The Quietus
