>LIVE META CIPHER EVENT (EVTV) ON SAT 4th MAY 8 PM-1 AM AT 395 BRISTOL BS2 9EB
The exhibition Meta Cipher presents a hyper-surreal crossbreed of sub cultures and performance art. Meta Cipher draws in artists channelling the resilient power and DIY ethos of Post Punk, Hip Hop, and Rave cultures intersecting with the surreal edge of LARPing (Live Action Roll Play). Using the premise of multi-dimensionality, Meta Cipher presents a hybrid horde of Vampire Squids, Clown Rappers, Screecher Preachers, Techno Scarecrows, and property developer Werewolves in a smorgasbord of performance video art installation and animation. The exhibition at D-Unit will also showcase an array of current Graffiti post punk zines, and will feature a lecture on Daimonics and how Elves can transform Radical culture. Meta Cipher will culminate in a live performance and music event at 395 Bristol, BS2 9EB on Saturday the 4th May.
Featuring the work of Skye Turner, Agents of the Lexicon, Infinite Livez, Anaïs Serres, Streetwork Zine and more.
AGENTS OF THE LEXICON
Agents of the Lexicon are a clown rap/performance band that are rooted in aspects of Hip Hop futurism and notions of inter dimensionality, producing sample based music crossing hip hop and rave, installations, video art and abstract graffiti art. The Agents’ music and artwork is influenced by the novelist William Burroughs and the rapper, philosopher and abstract graffiti artist, Rammellzee who both saw language as a viral, self-propagating masked, entity. Agents of the Lexicon has developed out of the performance art group, Cult of Rammellzee, who produced large scale sonic rituals and installations throughout the UK and Europe in squats, artist run spaces, clubs and galleries between 2013 – 2019.
INFINITE LIVEZ
Infinite Livez (born 1972 in Bethnal Green, East London) is an MC and artist with a wide range of influences from such diverse sources as P-Funk, Sun Ra and Surrealism. His first album "Bush Meat" was released on Big Dada Records in 2004 to immediate critical acclaim in the UK and abroad. Infinite Livez has performed in the UK and all over Europe including at events such as Montreux Jazz, the North Sea Jazz Festival and The Sonar Festival. He has also worked with a wide range of producers and musicians including David Murray, Nils Peter Molvar, Elliot Sharp and Kid Acne. He has supported artists such as Kool Keith, Anti Pop Consortium, MF Doom, Mulatu Astatke and Gold Panda.
SKYE TURNER
Skye Turner is a filmmaker, performer and sculptor interested in obscurity in the quotidian, esoteric knowledge, horror, the liberating power of LARP and absurdity. They recently produced and curated the collaborative project 'LARPgarden' with The Brunswick Club as part of the WEVAA consortium fund. LARPgarden was a series of artist-led workshops with a coalescing event that encouraged the exploring of story, narrative and role-play across philosophy, music, performance and sculpture.
ANAIS SERRES
Anaïs Serres is a multimedia artist, writer, and researcher.
Their research stems from frustration and yearning for the restraining but also liberating quality of language. They are currently using the tale of the Vampyroteuthis Infernalis and research in therolinguistics to offer and speculate on non-human ways of thinking and reflect on how our structures and orders pressure any other mechanisms of being into submission
STREETWORK
Streetwork magazine presents and supports current authentic London subcultures. Streetwork is produced by photographers Max Auberon and Sebastian Garraway.
