Sound Installation "mado" ~last day~ at Dareshack
See event details

A event held at Dareshack on Sunday 29th October. The event starts at 12:00.

Saskia's first solo exhibition will take place on 27th, 28th and 29th October, who explores sound in a variety of ways including live performances, installations and DJing.

In 2020-2021, Saskia organised and directed four exhibitions in clubs, galleries and event spaces in Tokyo. Collaborating with figurative artists, filmmakers, Butoh dancers and lighting artists, S has explored the role of sound in installation and performing arts. After moving to Bristol in 2022, S will create S’s first sound installation 'mado', which will focus solely on sound. This piece will create different views through the interaction between the visitor and the space, which can sometimes be a 'window' into the individual visitor's mind.

Saskia says,

“The world we see seems to be established through our individual perceptions, and these perceptions form the basis on which this society is formed. Our reality may continue to reverberate with the emotions and thoughts that arise instantly inside the individual."

The installation experience, which unfolds using sound and the body as hooks, creates a meditative and immersive space that encourages visitors to think deeply or not.

In space, environmental sounds will be layered to form a unique and new nature, which Saskia has recorded in Iceland, deep in the mountains of Gunma, on the island of Yakushima or somewhere else. There is S’s favourite semi-modular synthesiser, with sound generation and all modulation sources 100% analogue sounds. As a single sound wave is constantly changing like a sky, 'mado' will continue to bring empty and lyrical moments throughout the duration of the exhibition.

With this exhibition, Saskia also explores the communication of hardware equipment and technology in the future by expanding the possibilities of sound works. S is involved in the development of system programming and augmenting the functionality of S’s own hardware.

This work will be a first step towards Saskia’s new live performance style.
