Borjghali Georgian choir are recruiting for new members!
We sing music from the rich and ancient tradition of complex polyphony of the Republic of Georgia, in the Caucasus mountains. Like Georgia itself, the music sits at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, yet has its own, truly unique character. It blends challenging, dissonant and microtonal chords with sweet and lyrical close harmonies. Ancient pagan, Shamanic ritual songs with soaring liturgical chants. Powerful work songs, rousing wedding songs, and modern, composed songs all continue this music into the present day.
Anthony Johnston, leader of Borjghali Georgian choir, founded Borjghali in 2007. A highly patient and nurturing teacher, Anthony has been teaching singing and leading choirs for 27 years. There is no need to read music, or know the language, and the choir is open to all, regardless of prior experience. To sing in the choir you just need to be able to pitch a note, be keen to learn, and be willing and able to commit to fortnightly rehearsals on Monday evenings. The choir is evolving to be a dedicated perfomance choir, so if you are ready for an exciting and rewarding challenge, we'd love to meet you!
