Borjghali Georgian Choir at Easton Christian Family Centre
See event details

A gig on Wednesday 13th April. The event starts at 19:00.

Borjghali choir specialise in the music from the Republic of Georgia, in the Caucasus mountains. We have recently restarted after two years of being unable to meet, and are evolving to become a performance choir, holding regular public workshops, performances, and supras (Georgian feasts). We are looking for new members to join us on this journey.

Georgia boasts a rich and ancient tradition of complex polyphony. Like Georgia itself, the music sits at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, yet has its own, truly unique character. It blends challenging, dissonant and microtonal chords with sweet and lyrical close harmonies. Ancient pagan, Shamanic ritual songs with soaring liturgical chants. Powerful work songs, rousing wedding songs, and modern, composed songs all continue this music into the present day.

The choir is open to all, and there is no need to read music, know the language, or have previous experience. Songs will be taught by ear. Our musical director, Anthony Johnston, is a highly experienced choir leader with a patient teaching style, and there will be experienced singers on hand to help and support newcomers, so you are guaranteed a warm welcome and an enjoyable introduction to this beautiful music.

We rehearse for three hours every second Monday evening, with the opportunity for additional practise and social sessions on the alternate Mondays.
