“The Len Price 3 make Oasis sound like Kajagoogoo.” Thus spake Mani of the Stone Roses and Primal Scream. David Fricke (Rolling Stone magazine) went further, saying, “Rock n’ Roll doesn’t need saving, the cure’s right here.” Why not come to the show and see if they were right?
The Lennies emerged from North Kent’s Medway Delta in the early 2000s. Signing to Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool label in 2006, the band have released a number of critically acclaimed albums and EPs in the following 20 years and have gained notoriety for their intense live shows full of blood and fire. Distilling the best bits of the Who and the Kinks with a spoonful of Ramones punk energy and layering on a sonic glaze of Beatles infused harmonies, the band wears their influences on their sleeves. There are tunes by the bucket load – all delivered in a style akin to a machine gun totting psychopath kicking open a barroom door and shooting the place up.
Garage rock? Garage pop? Mod pop? Punk n’ roll? Many lazy labels have been slapped on the band’s back over the years. The boys have no interest in that kind of classification. They prefer the Jimi Hendrix dichotomy - there’s only two types of music; good and bad. Where the Lennies fit is down to you.
These are the facts: Guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Songs that never outstay their welcome. Noone in the band is named Len or Price. Now dig it.
