Eat Up For Starters: Bassics Workshop at Exchange
See event details

A event held at Exchange on Saturday 11th March. The event starts at 15:00.

Bassics workshop is a 2-hour introduction to the bass guitar for beginners who want to develop their interest in the ultimate underrated instrument. This workshop aims to give first time players the starting tools to developing their own unique identity on the bass; we will focus on comfort and accessibility, while breaking down a few misconceptions and stereotypes around the place of the bass guitar in music.
We will then cover the absolute fundamentals of bass playing with some practical exercises across listening and playing, which will demonstrate:
- The role of the Bass Guitar
- Ways to approach the instrument
- Technique
- Tone, Genre, Melody & Groove
- Bass in the Mix
By the end of the session, you’ll be able to play a simple bassline along to a beat, and will hopefully have a deeper understanding of the role of the bass in modern music and how you’d like to approach it.
Lawottim “Lawi” Anywar is a multi-instrumentalist, session musician and songwriter with 15 years of experience in gigging, song writing and studio work in various bands of a wide variety of styles. Most notably, outside of his own solo project, Lawi has played bass live and in studio with Cousin Kula, and contributed the low end in the studio to Chikaya, Tamasene and Celatone.
