DJ Spinn
(Hyperdub Records / Teklife Records)
Chicago’s DJ Spinn is internationally recognised as one of the forefront pioneers of Footwork music. Picking up the torch that Dance Mania laid down, Spinn and others birthed one of the most exciting new forms of dance music to come out of this millennium.
After Planet Mu’s “Bangs & Works Vol.1” compilation introduced Footwork to the wider world in 2010, the crew quickly formed a close connection with London’s meta-futurist sweethearts Hyperdub - a collaboration which would see the sound morph into all kinds of new, previously unimaginable shapes. We’ve all been watching and listening closely for the past decade, and we’re HYPED to hear what he has in store for us.
Ikonika
(Hyperdub Records / Night Slugs / Don't Be Afraid)
Debuting on Hyperdub in 2008, Ikonika’s sound is constantly evolving; from the technicolour bleepage of her earlier, wonkier output - to her current idiosyncratic take on Techno, Dancehall, Club and beyond. One firm constant though, is her ability to evoke a complex range of emotions through a recognisably electronic sound palette (and all with a strong sense of groove).
She absolutely tore the roof off when she last played for us in 2018, and as she jumps from strength to strength - we just KNOW she won’t disappoint.
Christoph de Babalon (live)
(Digital Hardcore Recordings)
Hamburg’s Christoph de Babalon is a snarling figure who channels his Teutonic sense of stoic DREAD and rage through his gothic mutations of Jungle, Breakcore, Dark Ambient and more. From the standout success of 1997’s “If You’re Into It, I’m Out of It” on Alec Empire’s Digital Hardcore Recordings (Thom Yorke calls it “the darkest record he owns” - big Pitchfork cool points), Christoph’s sound has continued to ferment over the past couple decades into a sickly delicious back catalogue.
Performing all of his music live, we expect him to take NO PRISONERS.
London-via-Nice vocalist and producer COUCOU CHLOE’s rise to prominence over the past few years has been astronomical. From co-founding genre-defying collective NUXXE to soundtracking runways - Chloe’s slurred, demonic take on Rap and Club has spread to the furthest corners of club culture.
