Jeff Clarke at Exchange
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Garage rock journeyman and Black Lips guitarist Jeff Clarke turns singer-songwriter with freewheeling and poetical one-man-and-his-guitar folk/blues/country results. Guaranteed to charm fans of Elliot Smith, Townes van Zandt, Steve Earle, Two Dollar Guitar, Otis Gibbs etc."

After Jeff Clarke moved from Edmonton, Canada, in 2000 to escape a life as a labourer in the Alberta oil sands, his musical journey began with a 56-hour bus ride that took him to Montreal, Quebec, where he formed the legendary band Demon's Claws. A release on the German underground label P-Trash was followed by several tours of Europe and the U.S., until finally the American indie label In the Red Records took notice of the band and released two studio albums. His boisterous garage rock compositions once led to King Khan identifying him as one of the “unsung heroes of rock n’ roll.” and for several years he has also been a member of the US garage rock band The Black Lips (Fire Records).

Before his time in Berlin, Clarke released the album "Hated by the Sun" and some singles/EPs with Hellshovel (Slovenly Recordings) and collaborated on an album together with Emily Frances Bitze under the name Milk Lines (In the Red Records).

On June 9th 2023, the Berlin-based Bretford Records releases “Locust”, the new solo album from Jeff Clarke – a stripped-down, melancholic change of pace from the Canadian musician.
