Brighton-based CIEL blend moody indie rock, shoegaze, post-punk and triphop—atmospheric yet urgent, with heavy guitars, pulsing basslines and vintage synths backing Dutch-born frontwoman Michelle Hindriks’ haunting vocals. Their sound evokes Slowdive, Wolf Alice and The Cure—ethereal but punchy, nostalgic yet fresh.
Themes of identity, self-discovery and human connection run through their work, with recent single “Call Me Silent” touching on autism, introversion and finding community. Beyond the band, Michelle and drummer Tim Spencer also run a Brighton studio supporting emerging artists and minorities in music.
CIEL have toured Europe and the UK, including a 2024 run with The Jesus and Mary Chain, and earned support from BBC Radio 6, Radio 1, Clash and DIY.

“All hail Ziggy 2000 - candy princess and Bristol’s new bubblegrunge sweetheart. The lovechild of fairy pop and gritty alt rock, it’s as if she culminates in a dazzling puff of smoke. Be sure to expect a strong whiff of whimsy, searingly crunchy guitars and powerfully nostalgic melodies that burrow deep into your chest — returning, as if conjured through her magic, back home into your heart.”
