Keiji Haino
Tirelessly traversing the realms of rock, free improvisation, noise, percussion, psychedelia, minimalism and drone, we're proud to host the first ever Bristol show from the Japanese icon.
The enigma has been ceaselessly creative with his main group Fushitsusha or via collaborations with the lofty company of John Zorn, Sunn O))), Merzbow, Jim O'Rourke, Derek Bailey, Oren Ambarchi, Peter Brötzmann, Pan Sonic etc.
"Over the last fifty years few musicians or performers have created as monumental and uncompromising a body of work as that of Keiji Haino. Through a vast number of recordings and performances Haino has staked out a ground all his own- creating a language of unparalleled intensity that defies any simple classification."
Charles Hayward
So, this guy is kinda a big deal for us...
Founding member and percussionist for This Heat (AKA the greatest group this country ever produced) and Camberwell Now, he is still a key driving force in the UK underground. We've had him play 3x in various formations over the years, but never in a direct 1-on-1 bout.
As an established solo performer his aural-arsenal includes; his trademark snappy breakbeat, Wyatt-esque piano ballads, cyclical repetition, melodica, triggered samples, bottles, cans & prams...
His frankly ludicrous CV includes jaunts & collabs with; Gong, Crass, The Raincoats, Massacre, GNOD, Makoto Kawabata, Monkey Puzzle Trio and most recently as This Is Not This Heat.
"Cologne had Can and Jaki Liebezeit, South London had This Heat and Charles Hayward." - The Quietus

EP/64
With every show, Dali De Saint Paul's Ephemeral Project comes closer to finality. Accordingly, with every show the project becomes more essential. This set will be roughly #54 of a total 64 shows, a concept that (literally) came to her in a dream. The only other stipulation; the music must be completely improvised.
For this iteration, loop-based experimental saxophonist Ben Vince will join Dali and her select comrades for the first time. Over from London again, we first hosted the Vince back in mid '17 alongside Mr. Hayward as Data Quack.
Or you might recognise him as the topless, bopping loon in Housewives. His latest LP 'Assimilation' for Where To Now? featured contributions from Micachu, Rupert Clervaux and Valengina Magaletti.
"...where the histories of free jazz, early experimental composition, and leftfield club music all cook down together" - Pitchfork
