Edward Leaker at Future Inns Jazz Club
£5/3 students

A gig on Thursday 18th February. The event starts at 20:00.

Edward Leaker is a saxophonist based in the South West of England. Having gained formal training at London's prestigious Royal Academy of Music and a wealth of performing experience as a freelance saxophonist he is always in demand for his smooth style and sound. Edward is best known for his own musical projects including the successful big band'Swing Machine Jazz Orchestra' and saxophone and strings group'Blaze', who have have commissioned new music from the likes of jazz star Iain Ballamy and will be performing the premiere of a new work by composer/saxophonist Barbara Thompson in late 2015.

The Edward Leaker Band was formed as an instrumental group that would appeal to new and traditional audiences alike. Definitely a jazz group but also accessible to non jazz listeners. In 2013, the band released their first album'Portrait'. The album is the culmination of many years playing a diverse range of musical styles and in a variety of musical settings. Edward's original compositions represent the wide range of influences that are always present in his saxophone playing. The style is rooted in groove with a strong emphasis on melody. The music takes the listener on a journey through a kaleidoscope of musical sounds with influences from contemporary smooth jazz, soul and funk. For this project, Edward digs deep in to his pool of influences including David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright among others.

Edward's band features some of the most dynamic and versatile musicians around, each of them well known on the Bristol music scene and nationally. Their individual skills perfectly complement the music and they each bring a different quality to the group. For this gig the band will feature Jerry Crozier-Cole - Guitar, Anders Olinder - Keyboards/Piano, Mike Isaac - Electric Bass, Andy Tween - Drums
