Clearly A Front: An Improvised Crowdwork Show at The Gaffe Comedy Club
See event details

A event held at The Gaffe Comedy Club on Saturday 17th January. The event starts at 23:00.

A comedy show. A barbershop. A front? Someone will lose hair.
Welcome to a barbershop like no other.

In this semi‑improvised, crowd‑work driven comedy show, a comedian steps on stage as The Barber, opening their chair to the audience and promising one thing only: By the end of the night, someone will have their hair cut.

Front and centre on stage is a single barber’s chair. Beside it, a jar filled with secrets.

Before the show begins, every audience member is invited to write down a piece of gossip about the person, or group, they’re attending with.

Once the shop opens, The Barber pulls a gossip slip from the jar and reads it aloud. What follows is improvised crowd work: questions, probing, teasing, confessions and arguments. At the end of each interaction, the Barber asks the question that hangs over the whole night:

“So… do you want a haircut?”

If the answer is yes, the audience member takes the chair and gets their hair cut live on stage.

If the answer is no, the show continues.

Early in the show, The Barber is joined by a guest comedian as The Apprentice. Together they escalate the gossip, challenge each other’s instincts, and push the room closer to the clippers.
And if, somehow, no one agrees to take the chair?

The Barber made a promise — and promises matter in this shop.
Sharp, playful, and unpredictable, this is a comedy show built entirely around trust, curiosity, and tension.

One shop. One chair. One guarantee.
Someone is getting a haircut.*

*Of course there is absolutely no pressure to have your haircut and you absolutely have the right to refuse. These are not trained hair dressers. These are comedians fannying about.
