Silent Film Cabiria is an epic 1914 silent film by Giovanni Pastrone

Live Music A live electronic soundtrack performed by Epistrophe Smith

Food A delicious hot pot meal inspired by the film

Why have just a meal that tantalizes your tongue and smells that delight your nostrils? How about an evening that gets in to all your senses? That my friends, is Hot Pot Cinema.

Composer & musician Epistrophe Smith has created a wonderful contemporary electronic soundtrack to Cabiria. The film is set in ancient Sicily, Carthage, and Cirta around 200 BC, and follows Cabiria, a beautiful young Sicilian girl sold into slavery by Phoenician pirates.

Created in 2015 specifically for the film & performed live, the hypnotic, rich soundtrack boasts a textured harmonic flavour and fuses elements of improvisation with electronica. Along with more traditional orchestrated sections, Epistrophe Smith uses sub bass, crunchy snares, clicky noises and a barrage of cymbals to create this magnificent work.

Electronics build a foundation for the live instruments Epistrophe Smith uses to perform. Alongside electronic loops he integrates double & electric bass, keyboards, analogue synths, guitars and vocals. Performing solo with all the live instruments and electronics is no easy task, but the result is a captivating unique experience, which simply has to been seen.

If you're looking for the ultimate cinema experience and love electronic music (think along the lines of Bonobo, Fourtet, Jon Hopkins and Nils Frahm), then this is for you.
