Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet at Hen & Chicken
£14 /£12 cons' (OAP or NUS)

A gig on Friday 26th May. The event starts at 20:00.

Jonathan Kreisberg (Guitar), Nitai Hershkovits (Piano), Matt Clohesy (Basses), Colin Stranahan (Drums)

Jonathan Kreisberg returns to Bristol following last May’s outstanding gig, which rated as one of the top three of the year.
Not only did Kreisberg burn up the place with an outstanding display of original styled jazz guitar work, inflected with supreme elegance and an innate sense of time, but the energy levels were super-charged.
If that wasn’t enough, he brought along a top rhythm section that included the remarkable David Kikoski who had the audience standing to applaud the sheer audacity of technique and flair, played with unbelievable speed and accuracy. It was an evening of brilliance…how can it be matched?

Well, all things go forward and this time round he’s changed the line-up to tantalise and tease out another outstanding prospect of a jazz gig.
He retains legend side-kick Colin Stranahan on drum kit but changes the bassist & pianist.

Matt Clohesy on bass is an Aussie by birth and a New Yorker by affinity (since 2001). Having mixed with the best in Australia, including with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, it didn’t take long for him to be working with some of the best young musicians stateside. The list is long and he’s been ‘in’ with some of the foremost modern interpreters of jazz today, including; Gretchen Parlato, Seamus Blake, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Geoff Keezer, Ingrid Jensen, David Kikoski, Donny McCaslin, Joel Frahm and Eric Alexander

If it were just these two with Jonathan, it would be good….!
However the addition of Nitai Hershkovits at the piano puts this gig firmly in the A-Class bracket and promises to be another memorable occasion.

Nitai has been collaborating long term with internationally acclaimed bassist and composer Avishai Cohen.
Nitai has recorded with Avishai on three albums in duo, trio and with string quartet + oboe, plus Cohen’s larger ‘New York Division’ from 2011 through 2015 and remains on call for more.
Check out his startling ability on this clip with Avishai Cohen’s trio, his solo is at around 4.30 mins’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVijn6v_cLM
Lately he’s working with Ari Hoenig’s outfits and will be off to Australia on tour with Ari after this Kreisberg tour. Other notables worked with include; Jorge Rossy, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Daniel Zamir.

For the Kreisberg band, this tour starts in late April in Denver and then two nights at the famous Smalls Jazz Club in New York before landing in Europe; taking in Hamburg, Munich, Valencia, Barcelona, Helsinki and Oslo.
Our gig is the last of a short 5-date UK leg; they fly to Paris the next day for a gig at the legendary Duc de Lombards.
