THE PRICE OF PROTEST at Hen & Chicken

A event on Thursday 18th January. The event starts at 20:00.

⛓️ Protesters are being targeted and jailed by the current Government. We will talk about the landscape for dissent, what the Public Order Act 2023 prohibits, how it is being policed and discuss this in the context of the recent era of protest, civil disobedience and the social movements that want to combat climate change.

We will also ask if Just Stop Oil are getting it right when their action can stop people from going to work and about their day. What is the price of protest today and can our voice be heard effectively without disruption to others?

OUR PANELISTS:

LOUISE LEIGH: a comedian and our Altered State host. Louise will moderate the talk and take questions to the panel at the end.

She will be joined by:

JASMINE YORK: an activist imprisoned following the Kill The Bill protests in Bristol;
DR OSCAR BERGLUND: a Senior Lecturer at Bristol University's School for Policy Studies who is an expert in civil disobedience and climate change activism;
JESS ETHERINGTON who can tell us about the letter of the law. Jess is a lawyer with McCue Jury and Partners who are specialists in human rights and civil liberties law.
