Hotwells Festival: David ‘Syd’ Lawrence at Holy Trinity Church, Hotwells
£10

A event on Saturday 30th September. The event starts at 16:00.

Free event!

Hotwells resident, David ‘Syd’ Lawrence has lived a life. One of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s greatest players, he was the first British-born black player to be capped for England, but his career as a brilliant fast bowler came to a tragic end with an agonising knee injury in his fifth test. Since then, he’s been a champion body builder, restauranteur and night club owner, and this year became the first ever President of colour for Gloucestershire CCC. David’s known as a great storyteller and a friendly, compassionate guy with strong views on fairness and diversity. Join him in what is sure to be a fascinating and entertaining tea-time conversation about his life with local poet Bob Walton and the opportunity to take part in a short Q&A.
