SPIRIT VALLEY BIO:
SPIRIT VALLEY are an Australian two-piece neo-psych band based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and is made up of ‘Dave Tomlinson’ and ‘Chris Stabback’ who are also the latest addition to sign to iconic London imprint label FUZZ CLUB RECORDS. Their second album ‘Negatives’, released 4th August 2017, shows their pulsing dance-floor-ready psych rock blur the line between the dark fuzz of DEAD SKELETONS, the warped synths of MOON DUO and the gravelly post-punk croons of INTERPOL or THE CHAMELEONS.
Hinting at the development process they were embarking on, 'Negatives' is an album that truly reflects the duo's dedication to their music. Aside from recording the drums with ‘Pieter Vonk’ at ‘Epic Rainbow Unicorn Studios’ in Utrecht, the band recorded and mixed the entire album themselves with no previous production or engineering experience. What they predicted to take 3 weeks ended up taking 6 months, a testament to the weight of this self imposed experiment to push both their musical and technical ability, one that quickly caught the ear of ‘Fuzz Club Records’, arguably Europe's finest purveyor of dark psychedelia, who promptly signed the pair.
This work ethic is nothing new to the two friends, who, since forming in 2010, have employed a ceaseless DIY touring ethos that quickly gained them a formidable reputation as a live band while taking them across the globe playing shows throughout Australia, America, Europe and the UK, supporting the likes of ULRIKA SPACEK, ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE, COSMONAUTS, NONN, DEAD VIBRATIONS, BUZZ KULL, SPRAY PAINT, LOS TONES and many more.
“Spirit Valley are an Amsterdam based duo whose psychedelic pirouettes are a thing of wonder. A two-piece adventure into the realms of sound, each aural construction is laced with different layers, reaching into unusual spaces as a result…Lead cut ‘TNNLVSSN’ airs first on Clash, opening with rolling tribal percussion Spirit Valley then charge head-long into expansive, glacial climes. Shimmering guitar lines act as search lights, illuminating the poetic lyricism of those sighing vocals. Tune in now.” - Clash Magazine
“Spirit Valley’s sonic assault of fuzz-heavy guitars and tribal percussion burns straight to the brain from the second the needle hits the wax……………..the album opener ‘Don’t Panic’ is an onslaught of ferocious drumming and twisted synths and guitars setting the tone for some of the most visceral Psychedelic Rock we have heard this year. Negatives is simply brilliant, melding influences decades apart into a powerful statement addressing where Psychedelic Rock has been heading for the last couple of years.” - THEE PSYCHEDELICATESSEN
“…Their blend of primitive but sharp sounds rang out with the momentum and resonance larger bands often struggle to achieve when playing live, and as cliché as it sounds; the duo need to be seen and heard in this format for their talent to be fully appreciated.” - Kate Crudgington gigslutz.co.uk
“(Negatives is) a primal and crushing psych-rock experience.” - Music&Riots Magazine
