Return of The Brackish and Sweetpool at The Ill Repute
See event details

A gig held at The Ill Repute on Friday 28th March. The event starts at 21:00.

Gluttons for punishment and burritos, we decided to do it again !
The Brackish sound is characterised by its use of dynamics, long-form composition and improvisation. Face melting heavyness gives way to gentle, spacious soundscapes within a single composition. Kraut-like grooves, polyrhythms, violent melodic statements and psychedelic, freeform improvisation are present in equal measure.
'A musical hall of mirrors built with warped genius' 9/10 ( Guitarist Mag )
'Bringing to mind the instrumental areas of “Tweez” era Slint in their guitar tonalities, they also go into some heavily unpredictable territory with breathtaking verve, guts and temerity. Going from deep harmonic abstraction, to driving, algebraic, Beefheartian romps to joyous, triumphant crescendos.' ( On Heavy Rotation' )

Birmingham band SWEETPOOL create a thrilling, intense melting pot of psychedelic punk and space noises. Think Can, Hawkwind, Pigbros, even The Groundhogs, hurled together with a dose of
post punk. There’s songs that happily fly off into almost
trance like repetition, powered by a pulsating rhythm section alongside the drone of what they call the ‘E pedal’ and augmented by bubbling synths. Then there’s the three minute angular pop and even the occasional hint towards Techno! Genres are made to be ignored. Preconceptions are made to be shattered.
