"Crazed Japanese pop-art horror/comedy collage like Scooby Doo meets Evil Dead meets hardcore hallucinogens (meets Mary Poppins meets Jodorowsky meets……). Indescribable cult cinema haunted house joyride, totally unlike anything else before, after or way off in the future."

Be Kind Rewind Bristol presents CULTURA Film Festival 2024 at The Ill Repute on Old Market
We are excited to bring together film enthusiasts and celebrate the unique and diverse world of cult cinema. Join us on SATURDAY 6th JULY 2024 for a day of special screenings of some weird and wonderful films. Don't miss out on this opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating realm of cult cinema.
How to describe Nobuhiko Obayashi’s indescribable 1977 movie House (Hausu)? As a psychedelic ghost tale? A stream-of-consciousness bedtime story? An episode of Scooby-Doo as directed by Mario Bava? Any of the above will do for this hallucinatory head trip about a schoolgirl who travels with six classmates to her ailing aunt’s creaky country home and comes face-to-face with evil spirits, a demonic house cat, a bloodthirsty piano, and other ghoulish visions, all realized by Obayashi via mattes, animation, and collage effects. Equally absurd and nightmarish, House might have been beamed to Earth from some other planet.
Start times:
14:00 - House (1977) (runtime: 88mins)
15:45 - Harold and Maude (1971) (runtime: 91mins)
17:30 - Eraserhead (1977) (runtime: 89mins)
19:15 - Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) (runtime: 109mins)
Please note: Tickets for this screening also grant you GENERAL ENTRY to Cultura Film Festival 2024. You will be able to watch any of the films screening upstairs with this ticket.
