Cat Ballou (1965) is the next instalment of A Fistful of Film. Staring Jane Fonda as Catherine ‘Cat’ Ballou, schoolteacher turned outlaw. Following her revenge for her fathers murder a group of land developers are out for his ranch. Tim Strawn (played by Lee Marvin) a gunfighter working for the developers are threatening Cat for her land. This brings in Kid Shelleen who is hired by Cat as protection but this legendary gunfighter is long past his prime. He turns out to be the drunk comedic relief in this western. Nat King Cole and Stubby Kane provide the ballads of Cat’s story throughout the film following the characters throughout. This films breaks down the classic grit and noble gunslinger myth and proves an entertaining slapstick can still have the edge of the ‘classic’ western. ++ Downstairs at The Ill Repute ++ Film starts at 7pm ++ Free entry - no admittance when all seats taken ++ Drinks available at the bar upstairs
