X-RATED ANIMATION. COUNTERCULTURE CHAOS. ZERO APOLOGIES. Be Kind Rewind Bristol returns to The Ill Repute on Thursday 26th February with a screening that caused absolute moral panic on release: Ralph Bakshi’s Fritz the Cat (the first animated feature to receive an X rating in the US). Based (loosely) on Robert Crumb’s underground comics, Fritz the Cat follows a horny, politically incorrect, thoroughly obnoxious feline drifting through a warped version of late-60s America. Sex, drugs, riots, revolution and satire collide in a film that gleefully pokes every possible bear, often badly behaved, always confrontational, and very much not for kids. This is animation as provocation: crude, cynical, funny, offensive, and historically important. A landmark of underground cinema that blew the doors open for adult animation, while also embodying all the contradictions and excesses of its era. Messy, anarchic and still deeply divisive - exactly how we like it! • The Ill Repute, Old Market - downstairs cinema room • Doors 7pm / Film 8pm sharp - no late entry • Free entry - first come, first served • Cocktails, beers and drinks upstairs - liquid courage encouraged More info: https://linktr.ee/bekindrewindbristol
