A event held at The Ill Repute on Thursday 29th January. The event starts at 20:00.

On Thursday 29th January, Be Kind Rewind Bristol returns to The Ill Repute for our first screening of 2026. We're kicking things off with William Castle’s Strait-Jacket; a lurid, high-camp slice of mid-century psycho-thriller.

Joan Crawford stars as Lucy Harbin, released from an asylum after twenty years inside for a brutal axe murder. Returning home to live with her daughter, she attempts to piece her life back together but as bodies begin to pile up, it becomes clear the past isn’t done with her yet.

Produced by Castle at the height of his gimmick-loving powers, Strait-Jacket is pure Grand Guignol: outrageous twists, heightened performances, and Crawford going gloriously over the top in one of her most unhinged late-career roles. It’s camp, it’s cruel, and it builds to a finale that still lands like a hammer blow.

Vintage Hollywood madness at its most entertaining and it's perfect for fans of psych thrillers, melodrama, and razor-sharp suspense.
