Opera goes under the knife…

On Thursday 9th October, Be Kind Rewind Bristol and Bristol Queer Cinema Club’s** Halloween season continues in The Ill Repute basement with the outrageous, blood-soaked cult musical Repo: A Genetic Opera (2008).

Part rock opera, part horror, part comic book fever dream, Repo imagines a near-future where organ failure has ravaged the population and a biotech corporation sells body parts on credit. Miss a payment? The Repo Man comes knocking to repossess what’s inside you… literally.

Think Rocky Horror for the 21st century; a goth-glam spectacle where every line is sung, the costumes drip with latex and leather, and the soundtrack fuses industrial rock with grand guignol opera. It’s bizarre, it’s bloody, and it’s got a fanbase as diehard as any cult film out there.

Not for the faint of heart but perfect if you like your cinema loud, messy, and gloriously excessive.

• The Ill Repute, Old Market – downstairs cinema room
• Doors 7pm / Film 8pm sharp
• Free entry, no booking required
• No admission once all seats have been taken
• Cocktails & drinks available upstairs — bring ’em down to the screening

** Bristol Queer Cinema Club is a casual meetup group that visits local cinemas across Bristol to watch new releases, cult classics, re-releases, indie and everything in between.

A message from BQCC host Izzy:

“Horror is a rich tapestry for queer expression. We see ourselves in the shocking, the perverse, the deviant, the monstrous. Our experiences blend with the terrors we see on screen. We lay wait in our closets and scare the village kids when we emerge: like movie monsters, causing panic and fear. We interrupt the body. But the intersection is undeniable. We are “other”, we threaten and we inspire.

So I’m psyched to collab with Be Kind Rewind Bristol to host a handful of queer horror film offerings across October. Thank you so much for having us!

Find the club on IG, FB and WhatsApp.”
