A gig held at The Jam Jar on Friday 12th April. The event starts at 20:00.

From Lyon in France, The Jam Jar are excited to present VOILAAA SOUND SYSTEM

The chances that you’ve heard the irresistible Afro-Disco sounds of VOILAAA on your music streaming journey are high, but to catch them tearing up the dance floor in the flesh in Bristol will be an exciting first!

Voilaaa is one of the many projects led and produced by multi instrumentalist BRUNO “PATCHWORKS” HOVART who has, over the past 15 years, proven his place amongst the finest producers of groove music - creating one of the coolest silky sounds that despite it’s light touch is hard hitting for the dancefloor. He’s joined on stage by DJ FREAKISTAN at the controls and the one and only PAT KALLA on live vocals. Uptempo, festive and joyous, Voilaaa’s sound is full of African and Caribbean inspired grooves to make you move.

We also have the incredible opportunity to present DIOGO STRAUSZ, a Brazilian producer and multi instrumentalist who’s dance music blends influences of Jazz and Samba.

Get ready for a hybrid night of live music with a club vibe in true Jam Jar style.

>> VOILAAA SOUND SYSTEM <<

Known for its afrodiscobangers, Voilaaa built around Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart from Lyon can’t stop make the people dance.

Under the imprint of the label and after their long years of collaboration in the achievement of projects such as The Dynamics, Mr President, Mr Day, Patchworks Galactic Project, or Taggy Matcher, the insatiable French producer therefore returns to his first love and specialty, Disco music, staring this time at the African and Caribbean influences.

Indeed, as everywhere in the 70s and 80s, Funk and Disco movements were extremely influential in these regions, and in most cases, the combination of the festive, yet sometime futile nature of Disco, and the instinctive, deep, sometimes rough nature of African music, sounds like a perfect balance. Aiming to find back this energy and specific sound, Patchworks quickly began producing a few tracks. Surrounded by a very dynamic music scene, where there is no shortage of artists with African origins, Patchworks decided to work with local singers, even if it means to accompany them on unusual musical paths.

Among his collaborators you’ll find other artists from the Favorite Recordings team as Pat Kalla, Sir Jean, Cindy Pooch & Celia Kameni from Saving Coco.

After the huge succes of On Te L’Avait Dit (2015) and Des Promesses (2017), they’re back in 2021 with their new album Voiciii.

Needless to say you’ll find in this new LP all the ingredients that made him famous: strong dancefloor-friendly festive bangers, irresistible funky arrangements and an undeniable sense of humor and irony. Bruno is as often surrounded by amazing vocal featurings from previous LP’s regulars (Pat Kalla, Lass) but also new voices you may already have heard on its recent EPs (David Walters, Rama Traore, Ayuune Suule), as well as the saxophonist Boris Pokora. The LP is also an occasion to pay tributes to major artists of the African sound, such as Fela Kuti (on “Water No Get Enemy”), or Manu Dibango (“Manu Écoute Ça” and “Tenor Jam For Manu”).
Since the release of Voilaaa’s previous LP’s, the Voilaaa Soundsystem did travel through the world to deliver its message of infectious joy and groove, from Equator to Thailand, from Kazakhstan to the infamous French “Fête de l’Huma”. Now you know: Voilaaa is everywhere and Voiciii (“here it is”) their new album.

>> DIOGO STRAUSZ <<

When producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Diogo Strausz arrived in France for the first time, he already had an impressive CV.

First, as part of the duo Balako, his music was released on Razor-N-Tape, Barefoot Beats and Greco-Roman after gaining the attention of Joe Goddard of Hot Chip. His tracks also have been played by Gilles Peterson on BBC 6.

He also produced Brazilian indie artists such as Castello Branco and Alice Caymmi and remixed a track by Brazilian legend Gal Costa.

Arrived in France, it is by signing the co-production of the disc "Les Bruits de la Ville" of Voyou or tracks for Julia Jean-Baptiste that he drew attention.

Freshly signed on Goutte d'Or Records, affiliated label of Cracki Records, to whom we can thank for Agar Agar, Saint DX or L’Impératrice, Diogo Strausz presented his first EP
"Flight of Sagittarius" in April 2022

“Flight of Sagittarius” is both retro and current. Between the old school boogie of Marcos Valle and the jazz funk of Azymuth but also the sunny groove of Nu Genea or the electro-funk productions of Guts. The DJs and producers of today have not been mistaken by plebisciting the track like Danilo Plessow (MCDE) or Yuksek.

On May 4th 2023, Diogo Strausz will be back with a new single "Junto De Nós" and a tour in France !
