A clubnight held at The Jam Jar on Friday 20th January. The event starts at 20:00.


The Jam Jar is hosting a night in celebration of Ghanaian music, with very special guest Volta 45 playing an extended DJ set of Highlife and Disco from Ghana, plus an exciting SECRET HEADLINE act gracing the stage with a mesmerizing high energy live performance. Support comes from Hi Life Hi Fi laying down more excellent tunes from West Africa on the turntables.

Profits of this show will be donated to the Asa Baako music festival in Busua, Ghana which happens in the first week of March during Ghana independence and promotes social and economic empowerment in the region.

VOLTA 45
Volta45 (Bernard Johnson-Tackie) is a London-based record collector, highly sought-after DJ, writer, event curator and radio show host. He is the main instigator at The Goldenstool Project an organisation with which Bernard has independently collected over 4000 records throughout West Africa. He has produced a 5 part podcast documenting the history of Highlife music from 1920 to the present which featured in Songlines Magazine – with an appearance on WordWide FM. He has collaborated with various bands and record labels, notably SoundwayRecords (Konkoma), Kalita Records, Yaaba Funk, and Fofoula to name but a few.
Expect a masterclass in Ghanaian Highlife, Disco and dance music.

We welcome this legendary UK based Ghanaian vocalist, performer & band leader to the stage for a special Live PA set, with a high energy modern twist on the traditions of Ghanaian music.

Two brothers with a passion for uplifting, boot stomping music from the African Continent! One half of the duo will be selecting the sweetest sounds from their collection of records from Ghana and West Africa - the clue is in the name with a set of Highlife and other straight up dancing goodness.
