Hippo Sound System are a hybrid live/electronic group led by DJ Hiphoppapotamus, blending global music with sound system culture. Driven by a passion for global bass experimentation, they fuse Afro-Latin rhythms with Jungle, Hip Hop, Breaks, House and Dub to deliver a powerful, ever-evolving live show.
New for 2026, the introduction of a Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler / sequencer at the core of the band brings a heightened sense of spontaneity. Used as a performance instrument, it allows rhythms, basslines and textures to be created and reshaped in real time, making each set unique.
The core lineup features MC Feline, whose melodic delivery and conscious lyricism lead the sound, alongside Stacey “Silvertongue” Doherty on saxophone and percussionists Munki & Mook, whose grooves anchor the music in polyrhythmic, dancefloor-focused energy. The wider Hippo Sound System family regularly expands to include guest vocalists such as K.O.G, S.I.M.O (Electric Jalaba),
Franz Von and Aziza Jaye, each bringing distinct voices and fresh energy.
Renowned for immersive, high-energy performances, Hippo Sound System have appeared at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown, Shambala, Green Man and Secret Garden Party, while also receiving support and airtime on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Radio 6 Music, championed by Jeremiah Asiamiah, Craig Charles and Don Letts.
