A
gig
held at The Jam Jar
on Sunday 27th November. The event starts at 19:30.
It's a great privilege to present Justin Adams & Mohamed Errebbaa at The Jam Jar for a very special expanded band line up. Full of dancing rhythms and uplifting, hypnotic grooves.
Opening the evening will be the wonderful, sensitive & rich sound of Soufian Saihi on oud in a duo with percussive accompaniment.
Justin Adams needs little introduction; he has been Robert Plant's sideman on lead guitar since the early 2000s however it is his well travelled musical experiences from the early days of Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart to holding the producer anchor for groups such as Tinariwen, Rachid Taha & LoJo as well as releasing three brilliant albums as dynamic duo JUJU with Gambian griot Juldeh Camera alongside much more that make this so exciting.
Tonight he'll be exploring the deep trance power of the Gnawa & desert blues repertoire alongside Gnawa master Mohamed Errebbaa on Gimbri. Mohamed began performing with traditional Sufi brotherhoods in Rabat, Morocco at the age of ten and received the title of Maalem (master of the Gnawa tradition) at the age of 28. Bristol is very fortunate that Mohammed now resides here.
Regulars of The Jam Jar may be familiar with Mohamed from his uplifting performance at this year's Shambala festival. Justin & Mohamed last had Bristol on its feet for the opening celebration of the brilliant Afrika Eye festival in 2021 (this year's programme - November 7-17). Justin has brought his infectious rhythmic strut & majestic guitar playing to many a WOMAD festival. This evening will be sure to get into the groove & charge the dance floor.
Soufian Saihi was born in Morocco & began playing the oud as a teenager. He studied with master musician Hafid Boudribila for two years before further study in France alongside a variety of Algerian & French jazz musicians.
He came to the UK in 2004 & in 2011 formed the group KARAMA which has grown into a celebrated mainstay of the British world music scene. His compositions are informed by a deep knowledge of classical Arabic, North African and Gnawa Sufi music traditions and platform a sensitive empathy for the immigrant and the oppressed.
Soufian has performed at many prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, National Theatre, St Paul’s Cathedral & the British Museum.
It's a privilege to platform such sensitive & driven, travelled & rich musicianship.
