"The most vital act to survive the 90s acid-jazz / trip-hop boom - Red Snapper’s electronic playfulness, instrumental virtuosity and disregard for genre boundaries blazed a path for the current Bristol jazz crossover scene (Snazzback, Waldo’s Gift etc.)"

A
gig
held at The Jam Jar
on Thursday 2nd November. The event starts at 19:30.
Notorious for casting convention aside, & tearing up the rulebook Red Snapper embrace dark funk, hip-hop, dub, psychedelic surf, afro-jazz and beautiful, fragile soundscapes. For 2.5 decades they have been folding these ingredients into passionate live shows & a unique listening experience.
Their new album nod back to the dark funk tones of "Prince Blimey" (1994) & "Making Bones" (1996) released on 'Warp', whilst integrating the more euphoric afro aspects of their last album "Hyena" (2014). The only thing unsurprising about Red Snappers creative journey is their commitment to progression & innovation.
Elftraps:
Manchester’s latest complex synth-routed and mechanised robotic percussion jazz and electronic duo.
Comprised of Liviu Gheorghe (formerly of Matthew Halsall's band) and Rob Turner (formerly of GoGo Penguin), their sound has been described as a 'sonic exploration of the universe', incorporating high-energy breakbeats, psychedelic synth textures, acid bass lines, and explosive jazz-infused virtuosic improvisation.
Up Bustle & Out (DJ set):
Quite possibly the perfect support DJ for this show, Dave Cridge of Up Bustle & Out will be keeping us dancing til close. Ninja Tune approved Up Bustle & out made waves in the 90's during the Acid Jazz days, fuzing genres at every opportunity. Notably meandering through, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Broken Beat, Funk, incorporating flavours of South America & Cuba.
This is an incredibly rare opportunity to catch the legendary musical force in our favourite intimate gig venue. One for the history books!
