"Sell out warning! Explosive Afro-Colombian sound system rumberos bring the vibrant energy of Barranquilla Carnival to Jam Jar. With their patent mix of porro, electro-cumbia, hip-hop turntablism, ragga culture and anything else that gets sucked into their psychedelic vortex this is heavy revelry FFO: Bomba Estéreo, Sotomayor, Sidestepper."

For the first time ever in Bristol, The Jam Jar is proud to present:
SYSTEMA SOLAR - the joyful Afronauts of Colombia's technicolour Caribbean coast.

Step into “Berbenautika”, a unique fusion of traditional South American culture and the contemporary — a vibrant intersection of electronic music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and audio-visual performance.

Systema Solar is an artistic collective of musicians, visual artists, and film producers from the vibrant Caribbean coast of Colombia. After performing together since 2006, they are making their long-awaited UK venue debut here, at The Jam Jar.

Influenced by the spirit of Colombian Piko culture (sound system-style performances), Systema Solar reinvents the spirit of traditional music through improvisation, joy, and dance. They fuse the Afro-Caribbean and folkloric music of Colombia—cumbia, bullerengue, porro, and champeta—electronically with the contemporary rhythms and styles of hip hop, house, techno, breakbeat, breakdance, turntablism, and live video performance to create a captivating show of “electropical” madness.

SYSTEMA SOLAR

Systema Solar was created in 2006 for a performance at the opening ceremony of the biennial of contemporary art of Medellin MDE07, since then, the group has performed all over Colombia and produced its first record in 2009 titled Systema Solar.
In la Revancha del Burro, Systema Solar takes a further step in their future primitive sound, taking Colombia’s Afro-Caribbean legacy to new territories.

As of 2010, the collective has experienced major success and is named the best group of the year in Colombia. With "Systema Solar" (2009), "La Revancha Del Burro" (2014) and "Rumbo A Tierra" (2016), the group has three albums to its credit, with many hits and multiple collaborations. Systema Solar combines content, melodies and lyrics, joy, social and environmental demands with unprecedented festive energy, as on tracks "la Rana", "Somos La Tierra", "Rumbera", "Mi Caribe", "El Amarillo" etc., offering a strong heritage to world music. The Canal 13 channel also devotes a documentary to them "Systema Solar Una decada de Fiesta Berbenautika" (2017), where it presents them as having contributed to the emergence and development of new Colombian sounds.
Revealed in Europe in 2010 on the TransMusicales de Rennes (FR), the group has since spread its style on the stages of the biggest festivals such as Nuits d'Afrique (CA), Paleo (CH), Sziget (H), Glastonbury (UK) ), Titimar (Mar), La Mar de Musicas (SP), Roskilde (DK), Summerjam, Fusion (DE), Couleur Café (BE), Vieilles Charrues, Eurockéennes (FR) etc.

Since 2019, the collective has unveiled singles such as "Carnavalera" with Bomba Estéreo, a great tribute to the strength of Carnival, "Es el Amor" a declaration of a permanent state of love, "El Vacile" an ode to the spice of life and "Guaguancore" a real cry of resistance and dignity and with which they commemorate the day of Afro-Colombianity.

Systema Solar has also released the deluxe album "11 Son 11" to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the album "Systema Solar." It includes new versions of tracks with Colombian artists like Puerto Candelaria on "Mi Kolombia," Elkin Robinson and Grace Padilla on "El Amarillo," or Aterciopelados on "En Los Huesos." Systema Solar has now released its fourth album, "El Futuro Primitivo”.
