Soft Butch at The Jam Jar
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Sell out warning! Soft Butch is back! Centring and celebrating butchness, founder and resident DJ LEXX serves heaters across dancehall, drum and bass, afrobeat and more. Their last outing saw a reggaeton ceilidh and this time there’s a guest DJ TBA and a social to chill-out and chat before the dancefloor opens up. "

A clubnight held at The Jam Jar on Wednesday 11th January. The event starts at 19:00.

Hi. YAY, you're here! We're doing it again. After selling out the first ever Soft Butch one week before it actually happened, we're back at The Jam Jar to kick off 2023 with some sexy sweaty butchness. This event is for butches and butch-appreciators, women, NB and trans folk to come twerk/shake/bounce/sway freely in all their messy glory.

7:00-8:15PM: Catch up with your mates and/or make new ones before lights go dim.
8:15-8:45PM: Poetry and spoken word by @leilahjanekingpoet, @jemmahathaway and @thestrawberryrat.
8:45-9:00PM: Join the meditation to tune into your body and feel into what’s there, or hang out in the chill room until you’re ready to D.A.N.C.E.
9:00-11:00PM: LEXX on the deXX for a big sweaty dance.

✸ Invitation to experiment, if its the right time and place for you, by having no drinks or phones on the dance floor (more about the intention behind this on the "It's Q&A time" Insta posts http://instagram.com/softbutchbristol) ✸

If money is a barrier to you joining and there are no £1 tickets left, please DM me on Insta or email [email protected].

ABOUT LEXX:

LEXX whips the finest Reggaeton, Afrobeat, Dancehall, House and Drum & Bass into sets that sweat and reset. She will throw you into the deep end and you will love it. LEXX's dance floor is a space for those of you who know there's more to life. A sexy space where gender gets bent and all beings are held in love. A space where you can dance freely to meet your struggle and release it all. Come get it.

ABOUT THE SPACE:

Soft Butch is a safe and held space. You are in good hands: LEXX is trained in somatics-informed DJ-ing and embodied leadership. After the warm up, there will be an opening meditation to bring us into the dance floor. I’ll let you know when the meditation is about to start and there’ll be a moment for you to decide whether you want to stay, move to the back of the room to dip a toe in, or hang out in the chill room until the dance begins.

Unwanted touch, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, ableist or ageist behaviour is not allowed. If you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed at any point, please come talk to one of our Soft Butch crew members (we all wear a fluorescent armband). We will believe you and we will help.

The bathrooms in the venue are all gender neutral.

Accessibility information: https://www.thejamjarbristol.com/accessibility - unfortunately the space is not wheelchair accessible. We're working on this for future events.

Covid policy: https://www.thejamjarbristol.com/covid-policy.

Strobe lights will be used during the event.
