Yasak Helva + Support at The Jam Jar
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Anatolian trio Yasak Helva twist Turkish psych, grunge, and Arabesque into a timeless doom-dance. Distorted sax and custom-modded instruments howl across fractured scales and shifting time signatures, whipping up a ritualistic storm of feedback-drenched psych-folk – eat it up ye Jarheads! FFO: Altin Gun, Baba Zula, Derya Yildirim."

A gig held at The Jam Jar on Wednesday 12th November. The event starts at 19:00.

Yasak Helva is a boundary-pushing Anatolian trio blending gritty psych-rock, grunge, and the soul of Turkish rock-folk, arabesque, and jazz. This isn’t polished pop-psych this is music with edge and intent. Known for their custom-modified instruments and powerful live energy, they fuse tradition and distortion into a sound that's raw, sophisticated, and unmistakably their own.

Since breaking out with the 'Saz Power' compilation LP in 2018, they've released their acclaimed debut Rektefe and a string of genre-hopping singles. Their latest album 'Atamba' (2025) continues to expand their bold, genre bending sound that is making waves on global stages.

DJ Burak Centidag opens the night with his signature vinyl set, spanning from the ’60s, the golden era of the ’70s, and to contemporary Anatolian psychedelic rock, funk, jazz, beat, prog, and disco-folk gems all delivered through the warm, analog sounds of rare vinyl he’s been introducing to new audiences.

Entry requirements: 16+, any under 18s accompanied by 21+ adult 1:1 ratio
