HEAVY

HEAVY at The Jam Jar

A gig held at The Jam Jar on Wednesday 16th December. The event starts at 20:00.

Nook Presents...HEAVY.

HEAVY brings together genres from across the spectrum of heavy music. It aims to blur lines, build community, and bring musical allies together.

You’ll find sonic walls, hypnotic rhythms, raw vocals and driving basslines. Immerse yourself in the music and live visuals and wash away the noise of our heavy world. Together we’ll build a radical space around music, dancing and care.

This first chapter of HEAVY delivers the blistering shoegaze of Restless Taxis; the hypnotic post-punk of OIL; and Haaji Ka Halva’s diasporic samples meeting live happy hardcore and jungle.

25% of profits go to Bristol Redistro, with the remainder reinvested into future events supporting grassroots music and solidarity projects.

Line-up:

RESTLESS TAXIS

Psych/ Rock/ Shoegaze

Restless Taxis is a DIY queer and POC-led band formed in East London in 2019. Throughout the years, the band’s sound has progressed from a scuzzy blend of sub pop sludge with ambient overtones into a frenetic experience blending influences from London’s squat rave scene with J Mascis’ grunge Van Halen guitar heroism and A.R. Kane’s crooning psychedelia. They blend UK sound system culture with Dean Blunt’s conception of the Post-black male, infusing their Caribbean heritage to create a sound unique to them. Their influences include The Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab.

OIL

Bristol Post Punk/ Post Rock

OIL, formerly Barbican, is a Bristol based post-punk quintet, that channels the influence of CAN, Leonard Cohen and The Fall into a powerful sonic experience characterised by hypnotic riffs and Motorik drumbeats. Their angry, poetic vocals and dynamic soundscapes create a transportive and theatrical live show, often compared to the high energy performances of Fugazi and Rage Against the Machine. With a compelling mix of audio spectacle and social commentary, OIL delivers memorable hooks and an unforgettable presence that captivates and engages audiences.

HAAJI KA HALVA

Live: Jungle/ Happy Hardcore/ Diasporic Sounds

Haaji Ka Halva is known for her high energy live performances and her experimental approach to mixing. Armed with MIDI launchpads instead of decks, she creates a melting pot of diasporic sounds by sampling anything from South Asian vocal melodies to reggae classics and R&B hooks over heavy old-school jungle, jungle techno, darkside, breakbeat hardcore and happy hardcore. Channelling the spirit of 90’s rave culture through sampling, Haaji Ka Halva’s sets are fast, cheeky and uplifting.

BRISTOL REDISTRO

Bristol Redistro raises money to support communities most affected by inequality who are working to create a more just, equal and sustainable world. They formed in 2019 as a small group of people exploring different ways money and resources could be shared out more equally in Bristol. They are a volunteer-run wealth redistribution project; they raise money from individuals who have more than they need to get by and give it to working class-led grassroots groups (and some individuals) working to create a more equal and just world. They aim to redistribute power as well as wealth, therefore it’s the groups they fund who decide who gets funded in the future. As of 2026 they have redistributed around £130,000 to 120 groups.

Bristol Redistro – They raise money from people who have more than they need to get by, and gives grassroots groups the power to decide how it is used to create social change.
