A clubnight held at The Jam Jar on Wednesday 6th March. The event starts at 19:30.

My dearest butches and butch lovers, it's time for some Spring cleaning in the form of getting rid of sh*t we don't need through a big sweaty dancing! Here's how it's gonna go:

7:30PM: Doors open.
7:30-8:30PM: Catch up with your mates and/or make new ones before lights go dim.
8:30-8:45PM: Guest performer Charlotte McEvoy.
8:45-9:00PM: Guest performer Jasmine Qureshi.
9:00-9:10PM: Join the meditation to tune into your body and feel into what’s there, or hang out in the chill room until you’re ready to D.A.N.C.E.
9:10-11:30PM: LEXX on the decks for a big sweaty dance.

✸ Invitation to experiment by having no drinks or phones on the dance floor (more about the why of this here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj3RtwZNzMZ/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) ✸

ABOUT CHARLOTTE @charlotte_mcevoy

Charlotte is a queer comedian and ex-horsegirl who wants to take you on a journey of discovery and revelation, and ask the question- why was she the last person to find out she was a lesbian? Featuring appearances from queer childhood staples such as Brendan Fraser in The Mummy, Dragonology and Xena Warrior Princess, this is a moment for all those who fondly look back at their younger selves and think ‘yeah this was really bloody obvious’.

ABOUT JASMINE @wildheartwithacamera

A spicey non binary princess of words and wildlife, Jasmine (They/She) takes pride in the taking apart of things, especially when those things happen to be whiteness, ecological mechanisms, queer theory, lego houses, owl pellets, or assumptions about animal sexual behaviour and bugs legs. A poet, marine biologist, public speaker, workshop creator/facilitator, journalist and author, her identity as a muslim, desi, trans-nonbinary woman has been a central part of themselves as they try to find their way through heteronormative society, whilst she reclaims their culture and self. Jasmine has spoken, taught, performed and written her way across the country, and is currently working on her first book as she waits for imperialism to destroy itself, and for liberation and rest to become a norm, not a goal of battle and protest.

ABOUT LEXX @alexathedicewho

LEXX whips the finest Reggaeton, Afrobeat, Dancehall, House and Drum & Bass into sets that sweat and reset. She will throw you into the deep end and you will love it. LEXX's dance floor is a space for those of you who know there's more to life. A sexy space where gender gets bent and all beings are held in love. A space where you can dance freely to meet your struggle and release it all. Come get it.

ACCESS

You can find the venue's access information here: https://www.thejamjarbristol.com/accessibility. Please be aware that strobe lighting may be in use. If you'd like a chair, please contact us on [email protected]. We'll have it labelled with your name and ready by the stage for you to collect when you arrive. If you need help setting it up, speak to a member of the Soft Butch team - anyone wearing a fluorescent armband.

LOW INCOME

If money is a barrier to you joining and there are no £1 tickets left, please DM @softbutchbristol on Insta or email [email protected].

THE SPACE

Soft Butch is a safe and held space. You are in good hands: LEXX is trained in somatics-informed DJ-ing and embodied leadership. After the warm up, there will be an opening meditation to bring us into the dance floor. I’ll let you know when the meditation is about to start and there’ll be a moment for you to decide whether you want to stay, move to the back of the room to dip a toe in, or hang out in the chill room until the dance begins.

Unwanted touch, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, ableist or ageist behaviour is not allowed. If you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed at any point, please come talk to one of our Soft Butch crew members (we all wear a fluorescent armband). We will believe you and we will help.

The bathrooms in the venue are all gender neutral.

There will be a photographer. If you don't want to be in pictures used for promotional content, please speak to someone from the team as soon as you arrive on the night.
