Satellite of Love: Caleb Parkin at John Sebastian Lightship

A event on Wednesday 26th October. The event starts at 19:00.

Satellite of Love Poetry and Spoken Word run monthly events, workshops and writing retreats. Our monthly events at the John Sebastian Lightship offer a platform for local and touring poets, open mic and a community poem.

All languages welcome.

Tickets will be available on the door. Cash and card accepted.

Open mic slots available by signing up through the facebook event page, contacting Helen Sheppard directly - [email protected], and on the door. Spaces are limited, we aim to give everyone an open mic slot but this is not always possible. If you sign up for the open mic and do not get on we guarantee you a slot next month.

Doors & Bar open - 7pm
Night starts - 7:30pm
Night ends - 10pm

Caleb Parkin, Bristol City Poet 2020 - 22, has poems in The Guardian, The Rialto, The Poetry Review and was guest poet on BBC Radio 4’s Poetry Please. He won second prize in the National Poetry Competition 2016, first in the Winchester Poetry Prize 2017 and various other shortlists.

He tutors for Poetry Society, Poetry School, Cheltenham Festivals, First Story, Arvon and holds an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes (CWTP). In 2023, he’ll be starting a practice-as-research PhD at University of Exeter, as part of RENEW Biodiversity.

Publications: ‘Wasted Rainbow’ (tall-lighthouse, 2021), This Fruiting Body (Nine Arches Press, 2021). ‘All the Cancelled Parties’, his collected City Poet commissions, is published October 2022. ‘The Coin’ (Broken Sleep Books) is out later the same month, a pamphlet described by Wendy Pratt as, “bold, witty, moving and nuanced. Parkin writes about the mother/son relationship in a way that is poignant, but not sentimental”.

As well as reading from This Fruiting Body and ‘All the Cancelled Parties’, Satellite of Love will be the soft launch for ‘The Coin’, so early copies will be available.
