Poor Man’s Friend
an interactive exhibition
@ KIT FORM
Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th August
Poor Man’s Friend Records will exhibit a body of work from a collective of artists that have played a significant role in building an independent record label.
The exhibition will celebrate the relationship between music, art, photography, and collaboration. Poor Man’s Friend is the total of these parts, a brand that is built through the shared ideas and passion of different artists, who have come together to create an imprint that represents them.
Poor Man’s Friend records officially launched in July of 2022, releasing their first string of singles with roots veterans - Mikey General, Prince Alla and Robert Dallas. Poor Man’s Friend as a brand is recognised for their interesting vintage style arrangements, eclectic musical influences and tight-professional productions. Taking inspiration from stateside labels like Daptones, Big Crown and Colemine, Poor Man’s Friend focuses on putting out quality material from predominantly golden era artists that have been established since the 1970s and 80s. Poor Man’s Friend output consists of music inspired by the Roots period, taking inspiration from labels such as Studio 1, Joe Gibbs, Sunshot, Channel 1 and many more.
