Listening In at KIT FORM
See event details

A event held at KIT FORM on Sunday 1st March. The event starts at 10:30.

Listening In is a hands-on, ears-open workshop exploring the audible but often invisible places around us.

Using lo-fi listening tools such as funnels and pipes, as well as contact microphones, geophones, hydrophones and radio receivers, we’ll experiment with different ways of sensing sound. Blindfolds and ear defenders will be used to heighten awareness and shift perception, while microphones will let us listen down into the ground and up into the atmosphere.

The workshop will take place both indoors and outdoors, including a walk up to Kingsdown overlooking the city to explore the area from a sonic perspective and seeking out its hidden rhythms.

The workshop will begin by talking about listening as a practice, drawing on Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening techniques to tune into different aspects of small sounds. Participants will use their own phones to record sounds, then play, share and experiment with these recordings using a projector and sound system.

Led by BEEF member Shirley Pegna, this workshop is open to everyone — no skills or experience needed. Just bring curiosity, an open ear, and a willingness to play.

Entry requirements: 16+, any under 18s accompanied by 21+ adult 1:1 ratio
