G*RLS Camera Club presents a Galentine’s afternoon with Girlfriends (1978), Claudia Weill’s debut feature and a quietly influential work of American independent cinema.
We’ll start off with a relaxed Galentine’s social, a space to acknowledge and celebrate ourselves beyond romantic relationships - whether it’s hobbies, art, people, or personal achievements. It’s an opportunity to connect, share a bit of what you love, and meet others in the G*RLS community.
Afterwards, we’ll settle in for the screening. Set in 1970s New York, Girlfriends follows two friends as their lives shift - creatively, professionally, and personally. Closely observed and unsentimental, the film remains a touchstone for filmmakers and anyone interested in image-making and the nuances of everyday intimacy.
G*RLS Camera Club is a Bristol-based collective of women and non-binary photographers, focused on photography as a tool for expression, learning, and community.
