"Free entry / PWYC! One year after the July riots, Bristol Counterfire author-activist Elaine Graham-Leigh discuss the scorched intersections of race, class, and rage in a country sleepwalking into the arms of the far-right. As Reform rises and rhetoric hardens, they explore what broke, what’s still breaking, and whether a movement rooted in anti-imperialism can help us rebuild."

event
held at KIT FORM
on Wednesday 30th July. The event starts at 18:30.
On 30th July 2024, rioting broke out across the UK. Gangs of the disenfranchised white working classes, focussed their anger, and attacked hotels housing asylum seekers. Up and down the country, for 5 nights, these became the front lines between growing right wing populism and the anti-racist left.
One year on, we investigate this trend. Whilst it's political expression, Reform, sees gains nationwide, so too does ever more extreme rhetoric become ingrained in large parts of society. Rhetoric that makes repeats of last year's events ever more likely.
We ask, what can we do to stem this tide?
What links are there between the broken promises of failing neoliberalism and the growth in right wing politics and sentiment?
And should the anti imperialist, Palestine solidarity movement be a central part of domestic anti-racist actions?
Join us and author and activist Elaine Graham-Leigh to discuss.
