on Friday 3rd March. The event starts at 18:00.
Social dreaming + drawing is a format that combines Social Dreaming - a practice based on the idea that the sharing of dreams and free associations within a group of people may help to identify links and dynamics hidden in the participants' socio-cultural context - with drawing intended as a tool for visualise and better internalise dream contents.
WHY SOCIAL DREAMING? Dreams can illuminate the shared social context within a group in the same way as they can illuminate the unconscious life of the individual during an analysis/therapy process. Social Dreaming is a practice that recovers the social function of the dream as it was in ancient times: an exquisitely revelatory activity and therefore, from an anthropological and social point of view, a relational and cultural modality and experience capable of bringing light on how we are immersed in a cultural context and why.
WHY DRAW DREAMS? Drawing dreams allows reprocessing dream materials also by capturing and returning the emotional experience. It can be viewed as a transformative tool that acts on the dream content and returns it in a way that makes it more intelligible and may encourage its internalisation. Furthermore, drawing dreams can expand imagination and stimulate creativity.
SCHEDULE: After a brief introduction of the context and a presentation of the attendees, the workshop is divided into two main phases called the Dream Matrix (1) and the Dialogue/Reflection (2). In the first phase the participants are invited to create a spontaneous narration of dreams and free associations to then explore the possible social meanings contained within them (second phase). Drawing can be used to capture some significant images and elements that emerge from the collective narration of the matrix as well as emotions and feelings generated by the stream of thoughts.
WHO IS IT FOR: The meetings are aimed at all people with no previous requirements or experience. It is intended to offer a protected and safe space to favour processes of inclusion suspending judgment. Sharing dreams and dream materials within a group can be an opportunity to connect with one's intimate world but also to understand others and the relationships that bind us to others. Knowing how to draw or artistic talent is not necessary for the activity, but the type of experience can certainly be enriching for those who carry out an artistic activity. Dreams are aesthetic and metaphysical experiences able to stimulate imagination and creativity. Drawing materials and paper are provided, but you can bring your own if you wish.
