An evening of Poetry featuring Anna Broom, Jill Zhao, Jan Swann & Anna Maughan

ANNA BROOM:

I am Anna Broom, a Bristol-based poet who is deeply infatuated with feelings in all their forms. Wild and emotional, my poetry is enfolded with the continual exploration of human existence, and the spellbinding strangeness of life itself.

JILL ZHAO:

Jill is senior lecturer in architecture at UWE. She started writing poetry two years ago, inspired by poetry open mics in Lincoln where she used to live. Her poetry explores the everyday ordinariness of mind and matter; Of her life as a woman, a daughter, and an immigrant. Her poem ‘cheeseboard’ won second prize at Clevedon literary festival 2023.

JAN SWANN:

Jan Swann is a Welsh poet living in Bristol.  She  has been writing for some time but has now fully embraced the poetry performance scene. Her work focuses on the themes of life in Wales, love and loss in all their myriad manifestations and women in myth. Jan has been featured on BBC Upload and published in Nuthatch Magazine. She will be taking part in the Bonds Project at the Lyra Poetry Festival in spring 2024.

ANNA MAUGHAN:

Anna has been writing poetry since discovering the Liverpool Poets at school aged 11, and later falling in love with John Donne.

She has been published by Apricot Press and Wildfire Words, and reads at poetry events and open mics throughout Bristol. She has recently published a pamphlet, To the Mountain.

Anna believes in the redemptive power of hope and the importance of open and honest discourse around the subject of mental health, when so many of us are fighting for our lives. Her writing is informed by her own struggles with Complex PTSD as well as chronic pain and illness.

She lives in Bristol with her partner and 2 children.
