Phallomania is a fun and hilarious workshop to explore phallic and erotic art! By looking at sculptural models from Roman times and in particular the so-called Fascinus, we will create a personalised phallic charm with clay!
Context:
In ancient Roman religion and magic, the fascinus or fascinum was the embodiment of the divine phallus. It can refer to effigies of the phallus and to amulets, as well as to spells used to invoke its divine protection.
The making of fascinum can also be related to the cult of Priapus, a minor rustic god of fertility, protector of livestock, fruit plants, gardens and male genitalia. He became a popular figure in Roman erotic art and Latin Literature, and is the subject of the collection of often humorously obscene verses called Priapea.
ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME! Whether you have modelled clay before or are new to the art, the making of these artefacts is easily achievable for all levels. Instructions and tips will be given to the absolute beginners while the more experienced will be free to experiment with more complicated making. Materials and tools provided.
