Mute Embrace by Lucia Sellars at L'Étoile Studio
See event details

A event held at L'Étoile Studio on Sunday 30th March. The event starts at 11:00.

Lucia's paintings are bright, colourful and mystical. Within them, humans and animals dialogue with nature and objects.
Lucia was born in England but grew up in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia and travelled through many countries - she describes herself as having ‘floating roots’.
Perhaps this is why in her paintings you get the impression of transcending reality and travelling into another dimension.
Memories, dreams, and visions come together through moving pictorial textures.

We look forward to seeing you. This is a unique opportunity to get to know this wonderful artist and her beautiful paintings from 20 to 30 March at the étoile studio.

THE SHOW: MUTE EMBRACE
The curtain drawn upon our vision holds our gaze in the
immediacy of our breath. Movement: a bird flying across
the sky, a pin dropped on the street, a cough, give us a
sense of space, of spatial depth. The curtain is a freedom
which protects us behind our eyes. Our breath is the
constant second arm of time passing by. Our hesitations
of taking action with our body or the muscles of our ideas
put into practice, determines our destiny.
In this exhibition, Mute Embrace, I include the decisions
I took and take when experiencing the world and the
obstacles set upon my indecisions. These determine the
future or destiny of the direction, angle and colour of a
brush stroke - its thickness, its speed, the eventual
language it communicates.
The paintings here selected for Mute Embrace hold
personal symbols of movement, sound, rhythm, emotion,
reflection, noise, memory. Choices taken from a poetic
alphabet in which I move within my day to day.
Composition is the result of observation and interruption.
There is no esoteric meaning but the universal or the
evident. However, upside down!
There are no formulas for these paintings, these drawn-
out visual poems. They are what they are in this moment
in time: “a bird does not sing because it has an answer,
it sings because it has a song," - Maya Angelou.
