event
held at Loco Klub
on Saturday 6th September. The event starts at 17:00.
As part of DIASPORA — our new series celebrating the cultural power of migration and the legacies of diasporic communities in Bristol — we’re proud to present a rare screening of In Those Days: Stories from the Windrush, directed by Grammy Award-winning filmmaker, DJ, and broadcaster Don Letts.
This rarely-seen documentary captures the voices of the first Afro-Caribbean immigrants to arrive in the UK aboard the HMT Empire Windrush in 1948. Told entirely in their own words, these memories trace life before migration, the arrival in post-war Britain, and the building of vibrant communities in the face of hardship — a vital portrait of resilience, culture, and legacy.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Jamal Ackford (Director of Culture at Trinity Centre & Lead Producer of St Pauls Carnival), offering audiences the chance to hear from Letts in person and reflect on the continuing impact of the Windrush generation today.
