The Belltower

Miles from civilisation. Out on the fringes of the known world. Down below the deepest depths to way beyond the furthest horizon. Two men, bound to a solemn duty, unaware of the torturous toll about to be exacted upon them. By what exactly? Seemingly… nothing at all.

Pray, delve with us into this unknown. Our two beleaguered performers inflict upon one another a harrowing tale of control, isolation, and madness. Your suggestions will take them to the remotest reaches of humanity, pit them against one another, and force them to finally confront themselves.

All new, all encompassing. Recalling from the edge of the unfathomable, The Belltower rings once more, abyssal and yawning, yet fresh and unfamiliar. Come witness a completely new descent into humanity's darkest qualities.

This entirely improvised psychological drama is loosely inspired by Robert Eggers’ 2019 film "The Lighthouse". No prior knowledge of the movie is required or even encouraged to enjoy The Belltower.

After a stunning sell-out debut at Bristol Improv Theatre in January 2026, The Belltower returns for another boundary-pushing night of improvised theatre.

Audience reactions to the first performance of The Belltower:

- "A thrilling descent into madness with two extremely committed performers. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time."

- "Easily the strongest piece of improvised theatre I've ever seen. Atmospheric and gripping."

- "One of the most inventive, exciting shows to come of of the Bristol Improv scene in years."

- "Dark, atmospheric, all without sacrificing comedy. Highly recommended."

- "A masterclass in dramatic improvised theatre."

Doors and the bar will open at 6:30. The opening act (to be announced) will begin at 7:30, and following a short interval, The Belltower will begin at 8:15.

Tread careful.
